Why things fall

چکیده

In this paper we discuss internal relativity, a recent approach to the problem of quantum gravity. In our approach we change the relationship between spacetime and matter. Currently we view matter as propagating on spacetime. Einstein’s equations encode how spacetime curves due to the presence of matter and how spacetime, in turn, tells matter how to propagate. In internal realtivity matter and spacetime cease to exist as distinct entities, rather, they arise simultaneously from an underlying quantum system. It is through the emergent matter degrees of freedom that geometry is inferred. We have termed our approach internal relativity to stress the importance of looking at the system from the point of view of an internal observer. We show that special relativity is then a natural consequence of this viewpoint. We also show that the presence of a massive object implies curvature. In particular we show that Newtonian gravity arises in the appropriate limit. Our derivation shows that there is no propagation without gravitation.

Why we worry about the things we shouldn't...and ignore the things we should.

It would be a lot easier to enjoy your life if there weren't so many things trying to kill you every day. The problems start even before you're fully awake. There's the fall out of bed that kills 600 Americans each year. There's the early-morning heart attack, which is 40% more common than those that strike later in the day. There's the fatal plunge down the stairs, the bite of sausage that get...

Insect Flight: From Newton’s Law to Neurons

Why do animals move the way they do? Bacteria, insects, birds, and fish share with us the necessity to move so as to live. Although each organism follows its own evolutionary course, it also obeys a set of common laws. At the very least, the movement of animals, like that of planets, is governed by Newton’s law: All things fall. On Earth, most things fall in air or water, and their motions are ...

Fall Prediction and Prevention Systems: Recent Trends, Challenges, and Future Research Directions

Fall prediction is a multifaceted problem that involves complex interactions between physiological, behavioral, and environmental factors. Existing fall detection and prediction systems mainly focus on physiological factors such as gait, vision, and cognition, and do not address the multifactorial nature of falls. In addition, these systems lack efficient user interfaces and feedback for preven...
